Landing Strip

The above picture was taken from 400 feet above the spot where Planning Board approved for the tower. Needless to say, landing an aircraft of any type on the strip would be dangerous.

The serpentine paths are used for the testing of autonomous and remote controlled vehicles. The white road is driveway leading to the AI Command robotics and artificial intelligence research facility which can be seen in the top right section of the picture.

Devil's Tower Environmental Issues

Downe Township is unique for many reasons not the least of which is our wonderful natural surroundings. Those of us who live here realize that we have one of New Jersey's best kept secrets right in our own backyard.

We have some of the state's best fishing, crabbing, hunting and bird watching.

Downe Township is extremely unique in that a very large amount of land--63% of Downe's total land area--within the township is exempt from taxation for environmental reasons and owned by the State of New Jersey, The Nature Conservancy or the Natural Lands Trust.

The state of New Jersey owns nearly 16,000 acres in Downe Township and will soon be acquiring nearly 2000 more. Non-proft land protection groups such as The Natural Lands Trust and The Nature Conservancy own nearly 8000 acres of the township.

Why is so much land being bought up for protection by organizations which protect land?

Because the land is worth protecting.

If the land is so valuable for protection and the State of New Jersey determines the land worth enough to be made tax exempt, why would a telecommunications tower be permitted in the middle of the protected land...where the Bald Eagle lives?

Does it make any sense to claim to be Nature Lovers Paradise and then approve a tower in an area where the Bald Eagle lives?
