In the
mid-1980s, he had visited Saudi Arabia often
as an under-cover military attaché for the
American defense contractor Sperry
Defense Systems and had befriended a number of
Saudi nobility through amateur
radio operating and falconry.
In late
August, 2000, the aging warrior had visited
Saudi Arabia in support of a contract to
install a wireless network system in Yanbu,
Saudi Arabia. While there he took time to
visit with his long-time ham radio friends.
Ham radio had opened many doors over the
years.
It was in a
ham shack in the deserts of Saudi Arabia that
the man heard speculation of the attacks to
come so soon. His informants were long-time
ham operator friends with whom he had chatted
dozens of times over the years. He knew his
ham friends were telling the truth and he knew
things were going to be very bad.
It was on his
plane ride back from Riyadh many weeks after
the attacks of 2001 that he formulated the
plan for the Artificial
Intelligence Command. It became clear
to him that clandestine cyberforce commando
units, privately trained and educated, were
clearly the only way to counter fanatical
suicide bombers and religious fanatics of all
persuasions.
The first
unit, Team Alpha, 312th
CyberForce Commando Group, Airborne
was formed of volunteers from various parts of
the country. Additional units are being formed
around the country.
