From the picking up of an Army recruiting pamphlet at a County Fair, the boy went on to take parachute training with the 82nd Airborne Division; he trained with Navy demolition unit UDT-21 and conducted maneuvers with the 77th Special Forces Group at Ft. Bragg, NC.
